It's a fact that as Believers we are still disturbed and confused by afflictions. In the midst of afflictions it's still hard for us to accept that God has high purposes for us. When facing afflictions we can easily fall into doubt or complaining or discouragement. We can fall into self-pity and even lose our faith. From there it's very important that we appreciate the answer God gives us when facing the reality of trials, and we're going to see this answer in James' letter.

A pesar de la insistente advertencia de Dios por medio del profeta, no oyeron su voz, no creyeron a los anuncios del profeta, pensaban que no era verdad, no veían de qué tenían que arrepentirse, que por lo tanto, no les acontecería todo cuanto el profeta Jeremías anunciaba; pero el tan anunciado día de juicio llegó. El anuncio de juicio de Dios para Judá llegó a su cumplimiento. No importa lo que tarde, pero la Palabra de Dios siempre se cumple.

Sí, el Señor en su misericordia y paciencia nos da tiempo para el arrepentimiento, pero esto no significa que el Señor no vaya a actuar.

For almost 40 years God, through the prophet Jeremiah, was calling his people to repentance, warning about their imminent judgment.

In spite of God's insistent warning through the prophet, they didn't listen to His voice or believe the prophet's warning. They thought it wasn't true. They didn't see that they had to repent, that therefore all that the prophet Jeremiah warned them of would not happen to them (?). But that proclaimed day of judgment had come. The warning of God's judgment against Judah had come to pass. It didn't matter how late, but God's Word always comes about.

Yes, the Lord in His mercy and patience gives us time to repent, but that doesn't mean the Lord won't act.

Last Sunday we saw how the prophet Jeremiah, in the midst of God's imminent judgment on His people, promises salvation. Jeremiah 30:11

Though the situation for the people of God at that time was one of extreme distress, pain, and anxiety, this was not the end for God's people. Jeremiah 30:7

Here at the beginning we have an encouraging voice from the Lord for us: as extreme as your situation may be today, this is not the end for you. Just the opposite – you wouldn't be here again listening to God's voice except that that extreme, difficult situation that you're living is just the opportunity in which you can experience in a real and extraordinary way the grace as well as the power of God.

En nuestro estudio del libro de Jeremías hemos podido apreciar que el tema dominante es el juicio de Dios contra Judá, es decir, contra su mismo pueblo.

Este juicio es anunciado de manera reiterada por parte del profeta Jeremías, y esto a pesar del rechazo violento del pueblo, que ante el mensaje de Jeremías antes que oír, creer y arrepentirse, trataron por todos los medios de acallar la voz del profeta Jeremías. Lo quisieron matar, lo torturaron, lo encarcelaron, bajo la condición más deplorable, le echaron en un foso.

Y después de más de cuarenta años de estar anunciado el juicio de Dios, así como de estar llamando al arrepentimiento, Jeremías se encontraba preso, los Babilonios tenían sitiada a Jerusalén, el hambre y pestilencia azotaban a la ciudad, es decir, ya estaban experimentando el severo juicio de Dios.

In our study of the book of Jeremiah we've been able to appreciate that the dominant theme is God's judgment against Judah, that is to say, against His own people.

This judgment is repeatedly announced by the prophet Jeremiah, and this, notwithstanding the people's violent rejection. At Jeremiah's message, before listening, believing and repenting, they tried every way to silence the prophet's voice: they wanted to kill him, tortured him, imprisoned him under the most deplorable conditions, and put him in a pit.

And after more than 40 years of the Lord's judgment being announced, it being a call to repentance, Jeremiah found himself a prisoner, the Babylonians had besieged Jerusalem, hunger and pestilence were ravishing the city – they were already experiencing the severe judgment of God.

In Jeremiah chapter 18 God's message for His people is begun with a graphic illustration, taken from the daily life of the times, the work of the potter who made the needed vessels for domestic use: plates, glasses, jars. And the raw material was clay, verses 1-4. Jeremiah, by God's express instructions, went to the potter's house to closely observe his work as he formed the clay with his hands.

Because Jeremiah is sent by God to preach to the distinct gates that allowed entrance into and exit from Jerusalem, verses 19-20. The first thing that stands out in this call is: God's insistence, so that all His people, without exception, would listen to what God has to say through the prophet.
